All new boiler and pressure vessel installations, second hand, relocated, repaired, and those moved from other jurisdictions must be reported to this office for inspection scheduling, by the installer, owner or operator, prior to being placed in operation.

All welded repairs and alterations on boilers or pressure vessels shall be performed by a firm that holds a National Board "R" Stamp. Repair forms are filed in this office.

Responsibilities for the Boiler Inspection & Safety Unit include:

  • Oversee inspection, installation and repairs on all boilers and pressure vessels that are subject to the Kansas Boiler Safety Act, K.S.A. 44-913 et seq
  • Maintain historical and current boiler safety records
  • Issue operating certificates
  • Perform the first inspection on all boilers and pressure vessels

Notice regarding Hansen Pressure Relief Valves (PRVs)

ABSA has sent out a notice that is has been made aware that Hansen Pressure Relief Valves (PRVs) Cat. Nos. H5600A, H5601, H5602, HF600R, HF602R and H5632R, S.Nos 02B11 through 04B132 may be susceptible to internal corrosion when exposed to standing water inside the valve. 

According to the ABSA statement: "We are given the understanding that the risk may be remote, but the failure of a pressure relief valve could conceivably result in serious personal injury and/or property damage. The valves were sold for industrial use between February 16, 2011 and April 4, 2013."

The supplier issued an 'Urgent Product Safety Notice' on June 21, 2013 in this regard. The notice may be accessed at Hansen's website:

Those owners who may have the above PRVs installed on the pressure equipment are asked to review the notice posted at Hansen's website, contact Hansen for further information and take immediate action replacing valves as recommended by Hansen.
