Testing Information
The display operator test is based off the NFPA 1123 (2006 edition). You will be provided a copy at the test site. No copies will be allowed to leave the test site and no personal copies may be used. If you would like a copy for personal use, you may contact the National Fire Protection Association at (800) 344-3555. We are unable to provide you with a copy as it is copyrighted material. The exam MUST be administered by the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office; applicants cannot take the test at their local fire department.
Once you complete the application process, you will receive a letter advising you have been approved to take the test. Only after you have applied and received approval, may you sit for the test.
The exam can be taken at the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office (700 SW Jackson, Ste 600, Topeka, KS 66603) between the hours of 9AM – 2 PM (Monday – Friday). We will need at least two business days notice to schedule your appointment.
Every spring, we set dates for regional testing. Registration for that test site closes two weeks prior to the test date. We must receive your application two weeks before the test date to be approved for testing. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.
You must be registered in order to sit for the test. You cannot just show up at a test site. If you inadvertantly are allowed to take the test without having registered, that test will not be graded and will be destroyed.
